Led by Nova, the Consortium of native corporations have brought new purpose to Europe. Space colonization became a mantra for masses, new joint-effort breakthroughs in technology opened a new era of conquest and trade for the Old Continent. Mining asteroids were the first step; facilities parked upon asteroids locked in stable orbits around Earth provided unimaginable quantities of previously scarce resources.
Thanks to the massive influx of capital from these endeavors, the Consortium's wealth became so enormous that it readily bought out the collective debts of the EU, without so much as scratching their own bottom line. This purchase made the Consortium the de facto owners of the European Union, forcing an end to any illusion of a democratic system holding any control over the continent. The only rule that mattered now, was that of the Consortium.
