Jisogi: the art of making anime and not drowning in debt
Welcome to a new episode of Shut Up & Sit Down’s reviews!
As a delightfully themed worker placement, Jisogi is a love letter to anime and every aspect of what goes into making one, from the art, the artists, the producers, writers and directors…and the money you need to make one.
Because as a love letter, it’s a bit bittersweet.
As Matt points out, you can describe this game as “Debt, debt, debt, debt all the way down”.
Spending money while you are trying to produce the next masterpiece of animation is apparently very easy, but making a profit? That’s the real challenge.
Jisogi is a game of trying to stay afloat and trying to be slightly more floaty than everyone else, as you all sit around the table gently drowning. At least you are doing what you love!
Check the video below for an in-depth review of how the game works mechanically and how brilliant (and cynical) Matt thinks it is!
