During the fourteenth century in Pisa ruled the money on everything. Large families of the city 'were in the struggle for success, wealth and power.

The houses of merchants were competing to snatch agreements with large families and earn better profits. Meanwhile, large manufacturers built splendid palaces, beautiful houses towers, beautiful squares and fabulous shops, hoping to impress the family and gain prestige. The center of this struggle for wealth and prestige is the Lungarno, the streets along the banks of the river Arno.
